Hey everyone, I hope exams are going well. One of the SU councillors is urgently working with the ISA on behalf of the ASA on providing food for international students staying at the Augustana residences over the break. The cafeteria will close over the break, and those students staying in residence will have frozen meals to replace the cafeteria. They’ve tried organizing home cooked meals for the international students staying, but due to the new covid restrictions this is no longer possible.
They’re working with international student services, residence services, and the alumni office to try and see what can be done for these students. The alumni office has gathered a “stocking” for each of the students but they are not able to get food. They’ve proposed to international student services gift cards to diverse restaurants so they could have a break from frozen meals and they will be receiving these cards. However, they also want to also supply these students with more food, such as snacks or easily prepared food that they are familiar with, to give them a small part of their home over their break. The ASA have a food pantry that they will have access to, but these are not ethnic foods and only accounts for ~30% of food as it is supplemental. Please be encouraged to share this message and donate, so these students don’t have to spend the break isolated with only access to frozen meals, this donated food can be the closest they get to feeling at home. There are 7 international students staying in residence and they are from: China, India, Turkey, Great Britain. |
