Hi PMSA Members!
I have some exciting news! I am proud to announce the launch of our first-ever Question/Answer Blog! (www.blog.pmsa.ca) I created this (*mobile-friendly*, RSS Feed Compatible) blog in late-August 2015 on behalf of the PMSA Executive Team as a way for all of us to communicate with each other and ask each other questions/share our experiences. If you have any questions about anything at all–undergraduate courses, medical school admissions, MCAT, interviews, research/volunteering, etc., or are even just feeling overwhelmed with the journey to medical school and need some uplifting, I HIGHLY encourage you to post and comment on this blog, where your fellow pre-meds and senior undergraduate, graduate, and yes, even medical students, will be delighted to support you! Refer to the categories on the left of the blog for common topics, and post your question by leaving a comment. If you have a question that doesn’t fit into any of the existing categories, then post it in the “General Q/A” category by leaving a comment on the “General Q/A” blog post I created. A word of caution: this blog is NOT intended to serve as professional advice on how to get into medical school, and should not be taken as such. It is simply intended as an open forum for discussion and as a means for users to ask questions and obtain insight from other students who are further along in their path to becoming a physician. Neither Mohit Kumar nor the PMSA Executive Team shall be held liable for any course of action you may choose to take as a result of reading this blog. Further, please note that we are NOT affiliated with nor representing any medical schools or other third-party organizations (except for our non-exclusive partnerships with Kaplan Test Prep, The Princeton Review, and Prep 101). We encourage each of you to support each other by answering each other’s questions! Since I am new to WordPress and blogging, please bare with me if there are any flaws or errors that pop up as you are using this blog. If there’s an error message or any problem, please let me know using the contact form under “Pages” on the left of your screen in the blog, and I will resolve it ASAP! If you have any suggestions on how I can improve this blog to better suit your needs, please let me know! Finally, you will have to register to post on this blog. Please use your true first and last name as your username (or even your UofA CCID) so PMSA knows you’re not a robot (we have to approve you as a member to keep our online community safe and secure). Your CCID is your name that is right before your “at ualberta dot ca” e-mail address. **For security reasons, use your “at ualberta dot ca” e-mail address as your e-mail when registering.** Once approved, you may create a nickname in your account profile that is visible to the public. By using this blog, you agree to PMSA’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If you haven’t already done so, please join our e-mail mailing list by clicking here to receive the latest information about opportunities, seminars, and workshops we are hosting. Check out our upcoming events by clicking here. Join us on Facebook by searching: University of Alberta PMSA Follow us on Twitter: @pmsaualberta Have further questions? E-mail us! As future physicians, we’ll all be working together to make this world a better place. So why not start now and support each other using our blog? Happy first week of school! Mohit

Hello PMSA Members!
Welcome to another exciting school year! We hope you have had a relaxing summer vacation! I know most of you probably aren't as cheery as I am right now, but I am excited to tell you that the PMSA has finalized our schedule of events for the Fall Semester! Head on over to the Events page and mark your calendars! The following are some of our upcoming events for quick reference: Tuesday-Friday, September 1-4: PMSA @ Clubs Fair in Quad, 9:00AM-4:00PM. Friday, September 11: PMSA Fundraising BBQ in Quad (cash only), 9:00AM-4:00PM. Thursday, September 17: PMSA Welcome & Introduction Seminar, 5:30PM, KATZ 1-080 (click for map) Previous and new members must purchase membership ($5 cash) to attend our events during the year (Note: The PMSA Welcome & Introduction Seminar is FREE to attend). Membership costs $5 cash per academic year (September 1 - April 30), and is required in order to attend all events we host. Your membership ensures that PMSA has the necessary funds to host educational workshops and informational seminars throughout the year, and allows us to fund and maintain our website. In addition, we provide FREE FOOD at all of our events! We sell memberships during the first week of school in September at Clubs Fair, as well as at each of our events. Previous and new PMSA members must purchase membership in order to attend our events during the current academic year. The PMSA Executive Team stays after each event to answer any questions you may have about courses, medical school admissions, etc., so please don't hesitate to talk to us! You can also ask us any questions on our new Q/A blog, or ask us on Facebook/Twitter (see icons at the top right corner of this page to link to our social media accounts). To incoming first year students: I know preparing for your first year of university is both exciting and scary, not to mention having to navigate the arduous path of medical school admissions. My advice to you is to take advantage of all of the resources we have here at PMSA, network with others, ask as many questions as you can (we are MORE than happy to help!), and most importantly, try to have fun! These next four to five years will FLY by. Don't sweat the small stuff or deny yourself the opportunity to focus on your interests just because you're trying to fill a "checklist" of supposed medical school admissions requirements. Believe in yourself because I KNOW you will succeed! Finally, if you are not already on our e-mail mailing list, then please join by clicking here to receive the latest information about opportunities, seminars, and workshops we are hosting. Have a safe and relaxing week, Mohit |
