Attending this seminar will allow you to prepare yourself better for your admission into medical school and make you a competitive applicant! "Cell Biology Research Day 2021 will be taking place on Friday, February 19th, 2021. Our event aims to showcase the research put on by students in the Cell Biology Department at the University of Alberta and other institutions. This year, we have also added in interactive case studies and a case competition to explore the diverse applications of cell biology. 9-10am: Medical Case Study (led by Dr. Gary Eitzen). Students will learn about what some pathological conditions look like from a cellular perspective and will be able to try their hand at diagnosing an unlabeled image. 10-11:30am: Oncology Case Competition (led by Jessica Bennett, 4th year undergraduate student). Participants will learn about the hallmarks of cancer, current treatments, and treatments in development. They will be tasked with designing an adjuvant therapy that targets select hallmarks of cancer. The case competition will be judged by professors in the Department of Oncology and the winning team will be awarded $20 gift cards. This event is limited to 40 participants maximum and registration is first-come, first-served. 12-1pm: Keynote address by Dr. Samara Reck-Peterson from the University of California, Sam Diego, "Microtubule-Based Transport in Health and Disease" 1-1:30pm: Student meetings with the Keynote speaker 3-4:30pm: Research competition. Undergraduate and graduate students will each give a 5 min. oral presentation followed by a 3 min. question period. Mock MCAT, Medical School Symposium, and CARS Session Medical School Symposium Thinking about applying to medical school?
